Message Building Course
Our Message Building workshop is designed to help companies who wish to define, describe and build consensus for a new or complicated offering. It’s extremely useful if you are launching a new company or product, want to change policy direction or talk about a particular issue. We use the systematic Message House Method to provide advanced Message Building techniques for our clients. Because effective communication with stakeholders and the media is paramount, who better to facilitate and guide you than a trained journalist. This is usually a five-hour session which aims to define informative and positive messages for your business communication. These workshops are all bespoke and tailored to suit your individual requirements. We provide international Message Building Training with key hubs in the UK, London, Italy and Spain. Message Building via Zoom is available should this be more convenient for your business.

Message Building FAQs
What do you teach in Message Building Training?
We have developed a proven formula for crafting effective media messages, centered around our Message House approach. Hundreds—if not thousands—of professionals use our version of the Message House, and we consistently hear how effective it is.
A strong media message includes:
- Quotable language
- Facts and numbers
- Stories, anecdotes, and examples
This structure aligns perfectly with what journalists are looking for. Once you learn our method, you’ll be able to quickly and effectively create powerful media messages.
What additional skills or topics can be included?
Training can also cover:
- The basics of good communication, including avoiding jargon, technical language, and overly formal wording
- Using metaphors and analogies to create memorable quotes and simplify complex topics
- Finding the right numbers and data to give journalists a strong story
- A structured system for creating and rehearsing messages that reduces interview stress
How long does the training take?
The length varies based on group size and client needs, typically ranging from 2 to 6 hours.
How much does it cost?
Message Building is one of the most valuable skills we teach. If you hired a PR agency to create messages for you, it could cost well over £10,000.
We price our training on a case-by-case basis, but it is generally more expensive than media training due to its strategic value.
Do you create the messages or train people to do it themselves?
A bit of both. Teams will leave the session with a detailed draft of their key messages. Some additional work is often needed afterward to refine proof points and supporting data.
Is one session enough?
Yes, one session provides a complete set of messages. However, some clients return for additional sessions to develop new message sets or refine their skills further.
What information do you provide after the session?
We provide:
- Slides and a handout outlining the message-building process
- A written summary of the messages developed in the session, with notes on areas needing further refinement
Message Building Testimonials
The Media Coach was instrumental in helping our new business develop its story, as the new bank approached its launch onto the high street. Multiple sessions were held with the Bank’s executive and the media team to pen a compelling narrative that would resonate with the media. And the result? Phenomenally successful coverage with some of the key elements of the story still landing six months later.
The message building section was excellent for message structure; and interview practice was very good. I’d like to thank the whole team for the value they brought to us today.
I found the work from the messaging session extraordinarily helpful and quite different from other message training.
The messaging session that The Media Coach held for me was fantastic. It really forced delegates to think about what they thought was newsworthy, and brought up all kinds of interesting case studies that can be used for future PR campaigns.
Lindsay presented to a group of women at our personal development course, Crossing Thresholds. She was brilliant! It was pitched at just the right level for us – Lindsay blends a perfect mix of information and anecdotes. The feedback from participants was really positive; everyone really benefited from Lindsay’s knowledge in this area.
Lindsay Williams is a real catalyst for our teams, helping us to think clearly about shaping our messages so we can put across exactly what we want to say. She has a knack of coming up with fantastic phrases which have the wow factor and can really cut through to journalists and audiences. We can’t recommend her highly enough.
We have worked with The Media Coach for a number of years because we trust the team. Liz Barclay has the most remarkable way of giving quite difficult feedback to an individual without compromising their confidence. By the end of the training session, they leave the room feeling positive, prepared, free of jargon and with a real understanding of what a journalist needs from them.
I finished the day feeling much more confident about doing media and public speaking. The message house is going to be a really useful tool, with clever, practical application. I think it will act as my safety blanket ahead of any public speaking commitments.
