Oliver was a Reuters journalist for 21 years, covering business and general news in more than a dozen countries. His role includes solo reporter, team reporter, bureau chief, desk subeditor and news editor. He has worked with print and broadcasting, reporting on international conflict, the arts, sports, finance and economics.

Since 1998 Oliver has designed and conducted training workshops in more than 60 countries in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian. Subjects include Media Relations, Interview Technique, Press Release, Advocacy, Effective Writing, and Business, Environmental, Ethical, Health and General Journalism.

Clients include: Reuters Foundation, European Journalism Centre, Thomson Foundation, Radio Liberty, Russian Information Agency, The Norwegian Refugee Committee, European Parliament Press Service, and a number of UN agencies.

Oliver is an occasional trainer with The Media Coach.
